Experiencing Ice Age : Expanding in to a deep film experience

It's an amazing experience watching film.

As a film fanatic i've experienced film's origins of silent films like Charles Chaplin films to innovative films like Avatar (2009) where 3D experience was helmed for the viewers .

Now films expands as universes. They build on book adaptations.

Like Harry Potter books which was a global phenomenon which turned into a worldwide film franchise (2001 - 2011) as well where sub-genre universes are also expanding like the films for Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them (2016).

The Lord of the rings books which came in the period of 1937 to 1949. Also expanded into a globally renowned film franchise (2001 - 2003). The Hobbit a prequel book in 1937 was published and also was expanded into a film adaptation as a trilogy in 2012 to 2014.

Film universes like Star Wars and Star Trek are solely based on the characters and it's long standing fantasy are amazing.

Comic book cinematic universes like Marvel and DC are running the hollywood now.

James Bond, Indiana Jones and Rocky are character based film universes.

And filmmakers like Wes Anderson and David Lynch create there own film style interconnected film universes in there fashion.

And I keep going on about these stuff.

This is what makes films interesting. It is not just videos created in the cameras and actors playing roles in films. They are unique. They have deep rooted character arcs, back stories and worlds of deep unique histories.

Now me in this holiday season experienced the Ice Age franchise which is an animated film universe.

Ice age started as an independent animation which now a billion dollar global brand in animation films.

It has short films and feature films which performs well globally financially and critically.

Now as a Sri Lankan film fanatic.

We watch films for entertainment and this is it.

The characters are beautiful, full of depth and fun.

Manny, Sid, Diego were the inception.

Then expanded with Ellie, Eddie and Crash.

Buck the amazing addition of a character who's more like Captain Jack Sparrow from "The Pirates of the carribbean" franchise.

And the best is "Scrat" the icon of the Ice Age brand.

Now the major five feature films expand into the characters as well as a sarcastic perspective on the global history, there are some short films that build on the personal world of each and every character and specially on Scrat.

And when you follow up these and experience these sub factors of a major film franchise it gives a more fun perspective.

Now taking on the Ice Age : Collision Course (2016) which was the latest installment was kind of fun to watch when you see the Ice Age is threatened by cosmic attacks.

The characters are fun as always. Depth, fun and cool animations were amazing.

Overall a good addition to the Ice Age Universe.

Sid and Scrat was fun as always.

And also the television specials made for seasons were also fun it brings closer to the characters.

Overall experiencing the additional short films and television specials parallely with the films were a more cinematic experience.

Lucifer - Season 02 : Y u du dis ?

Lucifer S1 was a jump start to a new unique portrayal of the devil. And I loved it.

It ends when he goes back home (Hell) realising his most feared prisoner was released his mother which excited me more hoping for a positive expansion in the "Lucifer" universe.

And.....

"Y u du dis? I cri evri tyme..." is a Sri Lankan meme reflecting on local celebrities and mocking them for doing absurd things and making the victim cry.

Now this is the expression I got when watching Lucifer S2.

It's an utter failure.

Luci's mother is a very shallow and confusing character. And with her arrival suddenly everyone is.

The creators try to revive the B-movie universes, night life culture, celebrity lifestyle and this LA vibe but its just music and images.

The story just moves like it was in the 1st season and it keeps stagnating on Chloe and Luci.

Luci's dark humour feels like preaching now.

The reason everything crashed was Luci's mom and the unstructured nature of her character.

I stopped watching from the fifth episode.

Don't waste time in this utter waste.

Watch Swapna (A Hindi / Sinhala dubbed mega teledrama : Which is also a detective story - Which is equivalent to B-rated Soap operas in US) instead.

A Disappointment.

Independence Day : Resurgence (2016) - If you loved the first... This one quite tries to come out okay.

Well okay....The sequel is not like the first.... which was groundbreaking and innovative.

Which as a kid I watched like a 100 times in the VHS.

And this sequel hated globally for ruining a child hood favourites of many...

But this still comes out for me okay.

Would have loved to see Will Smith reprising his role.... well.....

Not this newbies, who kinda screws the whole story and plot with there shallow character arcs but still.... It's Independence Day sequel for me and I kinda waited for it for a long time.

I know they had two decades for this but still loved it though.

Jeff Goldblum, Bill Pullman and Judd Hirsch playing there roles was an amazing experience.

The stunning action sequences are typical Roland Emmerich and his love of destructing global land marks is amazing. (White House Down [2013], 2012[2009], The day after tomorrow[2004] and Godzilla[1998])

A personal favourite.

Daredevil : Season 01 - Depth and violence

Now I'm not exposed to comic books in a massive way. I may have read a couple of DC, Marvel and other standalone comic book franchises, but never a big fan or a follower.

I read books, but not comics.

But in case of movies it's different. I love movies. The whole concept of movies keeps me alive.
There are no genre specification for me. So It opens your scope in movies. It's more like my second job.

So watching comic book adaptations is a kind of a sub-genre in movies I follow.

Now I'm no authority in comic Vs. Film/Tv series analysis coz like I said.

I never was into comics.

But when you watch so many comic book adaptations you get know them.

For a Sri Lankan, Comic adaptations are purely entertainment.

And Daredevil : Season 01 - Tv series is pure entertainment.

Netflix originals are amazing.

House of Cards, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Narcos.

This is the same.

Now though I personally love Daredevil (2003), many global fans hate it.

But this is loved globally and among Sri Lankan fans due to its both substance and style.

Beauty of it is how it builds on the character arcs with depth and it's connection to the plot.

The action sequences are epic and gets better every episode.

So the season 01 was an amazing inception for the television series.

A hologram for the king : DeJaVu

This is a "Tom Hanks" film.

So seeing him itself is enough sometimes for film goers like me. (His charm and quirky acting with emotions are outstanding.)

But this is just like DeJa Vu for me reminding me of "Salmon Fishing in the Yemen (2011)".

Same cultural clash with a more positive vibes from both countries.

Tom Hanks pulled off a good job. The depiction of substance of the story was the issue.

We see a man in a mid-life crisis and trying to sell a holographic communication device to a Saudi king. We see his internal family problems, his past career failures and also his inner struggle that goes with same existential issues that is discussed in many films.

But this is a hollywood film and it's not always the style what I as a viewer expect. Tom Tykwer as a director is innovative, We see some innovative visual takes in this film, but we get the feeling of repetition in this film.

Anyway though it felt repetitive it was a majestic in cinematographic achievement.

Well you can't expect everything right.

Robert Langdon and Christian Wolff

2016 was built on films like these.

Lonely, smart and imaginative characters.

Jack Reacher, Dr. Steven Strange, Ms. Peregrines and Chelsey "Sully" Sullenberger.

The Accountant has Christian Wolff and Inferno has Robert Langdon.

Overall both films were average considering what they were able to do with such strong plots and character arcs but still they have some innovative aspects.

Inferno

Highly anticipated though delivered very poorly due to personally in my opinion is due to lack of innovation as the predecessors. (The Da Vinci Code (2006) and Angels and Demons (2009))

The story is itself shallow having an antagonist of the plot to destroy the world but still would have pulled of a stunning visual feast if the film gave depth to Dante and his literature which was highly quoted throughout the film.

And also Robert Langdon's visions are more like hallucinations where in predecessor films he actually had some awesome thoughts to figure out the puzzles he was given.

Anyway there's Robert Langdon and it's Ron Howard. So the film manages to survive through the directors visual style.

Overall - 3/5

The Accountant

The Accountant is a rare film which have some accounting and also character study.

The film overall reprises the unique Gavin O'connor Directorial style and builds on a criminal accountant's life and how it closes.

A spiral and a confusing child hood with an amazing highly trained skill set, but lack of social skills Christian Wolff is an amazing character study.

But the film gets loaded up with too much depth of unnecessary aspects making it carried away.

Anyway this is like a super hero film for accountants.

Because Ben Affleck reprises his Role of batman in this film as well. Because he kicks ass in this film.

A great take on a very niche character.

Personally loved the film due to it's take on accountancy and the character.

And I'm an accountant in training so this is basically motivation.

Overall - 3.5/5

Both the films had 2 unique characters but did not build on them.

But there skills are amazing.

Dimantha, Black Mirror and Christmas : End of 2016

I personally loved Black Mirror : Season 01. It's style and the way the tv series was built is so unique and dark you get addicted to the characters and the story arc in a scary way.

So I actually wasted my whole November and December of 2016 to cover up the new (which is the 3rd Season) and the 2nd season. They were equally amazing.

Simply BM (Black Mirror) is about how dark technological advancements can effect on the natural human condition due to it's artificial structure. The episodes are though made in anthology style will reflect a connectivity in a small detail level making BM more of small tv series niche universe, and it actually worked out because now BM has a strong cult following and also is ranked among the best television shows in the world.

So here begins the review....

BM : Season 02

BM : S2 though not powerful as the first season thematically, is very powerful in technical development.

Episodes like "Be right back" touches on the privacy of life and how it affects through technology. The episode builds on an AI which has an awesome technicality and it is unforgettable experience for the viewers. Thematically  it is even saddening and emotional it is quite scary how human emotions can be imitated.

"White Bear" is a dramatic experience and a wild take on punishment and moral justice through technological advancement. More like a modern adaptation of "A clockwork Orange" from Stanley Kubrick but a bit of over the top in making it too atmospheric. Anyway a dark BM experience with a more experimental take on TV.

Episode "The Waldo Moment" is pure BM. It is back with the politics and media. And it expands into global conspiracy. Another experimental experience from BM.

But overall the darker aspect existed in BM : S1 is not there.

Overall - 3.5/5

BM  :  White Christmas (Special Edition)

BM Special WC (White Christmas) is back on track on par to S1. It is dark to the core with aspects of marketing, consumerism, AI and human relationships. This more of a long episode has links to the prior S1 and S2.

This makes this the first episode to expand on the universe of BM.

More like a twisted christmas special this episode questions the human mind itself and scares the hell out of the viewers when we see a replication of the human mind.

The technologies from prior season's has also have passed on to BM : WC with more modifications.

This one is pretty good. So I'm keeping it to the viewers.

Overall - 4/5

BM  :  Season 03

BM : S03 doubles the number of episodes and the technical level of the Tv series also builds up. The universe of BM also expands.

I will not go into each and every episode but this season quite adds up some innovations to the sci-fi universe and specially to BM universe.

This season shows promise and variety and the BM team has still got some skills in innovation.

My favourite was "Play Test". Which was structured as a virtual reality game play fused with a haunting horror/terror aspect. The sci-fi aspect questions the factors of memory and existence itself.

And episodes like "San Junipero"are also amazing it covers culture of many generations as well as the human existence itself. Breaking many social and technological taboos built in religion, Socio-cultural aspects. Basically humans play god in this episode.

A darker cyber bullying aspect is touched for the first time in the episode "Shut up and dance".

Overall BM is expanding into many darker aspects of technology touching many diverse social aspects connected to technology.

Found Dory and feels digitally amnesiac : coincidence ? - November vibes

November 2016 is going to be tough.

Many exams so these will be the only films I'll be watching this month.

It's a coincidence the films I watched in the beginning of the month seems to connect with the psychological aspects related to memory and mind, from a children's film of a fish having "Short term memory loss" to a documentary on global digital oblivion of losing digitized data and information due to technological obsoletes.

Anyway these were extremely entertaining and I'll put them down to this blog.

Finding Dory (2016)

As a sequel to the Pixar and Disney's "Finding Nemo"(2003) the adventure continues when Dory sequentially starts to cure her short term memory loss and starts looking for her parents. This unravels an unforgettable adventure eventually leading to an emotional ending like the predecessor.

The start of the film was dull and boring but eventually when the mystery unravels the story gets more interesting and fun.

Animations and sound are colourful and unforgettable.

Sigourney Weaver's cameo is fun and groundbreaking in entertainment wise.

Characters like Bailey, Hank, Destiny and the sea lion Gerald lights the story amazingly.

A really emotional and good sequel for the animation film genre.

Overall - 3.5/5

Digital Amnesia (2014)

This 50 minute VPRO back light documentary radically discusses an unknown issue to the public related to global data and information slippage due to the technological obsolescence and will cover many sustainable solutions from many experts in the field of digital data recovery.

The issues of risk of loosing digital data due to the vulnerability, the drastic changes occurred in the digital world and also with destruction of physical library due to over reliance in online data can be analyzed in the relevant documentary.

It is Jason Scott, a digital historian and a tech savant who also takes part in this documentary to discuss on the "mass information losses" in the web and in the digital media due to it's risk and his solution is as an independent party is to provide an online tool of "Archive Team Warrior", a data protector tool which will compress and and will put in a global database to protect data and any individual can join in as a social service. His image is given above.

Likewise many individuals and teams have joined hands to fight against the "Digital Amnesia" and are appearing in the documentary.

- Mr. Brewster Kahle : Founder of Internet Archive and Physical Archive

This entity will protect all the books and other physical media and archive in the Internet to protect and stop digital amnesia to establish data and information protection.

- Mr. Dennis Wing - McMoon project

This team is trying to protect videos from the earliest moon landing videos from NASA to maintain a digital video library to establish data and information protection without data obsoleting.

- Mr. Ismail Serageldin - Director : Library of Alexandria

He initiated a book purchase from a 250 year old library shredding of a dutch institute to be stopped and maintained in Egypt as a safety measure to implement a Anti-Digital amnesia project.

- The Long now foundation

They have build "The Rosetta Disk" which contains microscopic information inbuilt to the relevant metal to maintain sustainable information for the future historians. And also as a symbol of sustainability "Millennium Clock" is built.

Any way an amazing documentary covering an unknown part of the human aspect of memory and future of information.

Overall - 4/5

     Black Mirror : Season 01

Black Mirror is a television anthology series with the message of the evils of the modernisation of the world. This television drama includes many of the strongest aspects that effect human life like media, social networking and privacy.

This television drama is built on three stories that reflects upon three stories......

(01) Black Mirror : The national anthem

Overall - 3.5/5

This episode is reflected upon the media and it's strength on inflencing a nation and a bit of a darker perspective on pornography.

(02) Black Mirror : 15 Million Merits

Overall - 4/5

This story set in an utopian world where people earn money (Credits as per the stories universe) through running in exercise machines shows a darker perspective on media and how the society accepts anything from the television without any judgement because as per the episode only thing for entertainment is television.

And also the extreme take on philosophy in a critical way makes this the best episode of the 1st season.

(03) Black Mirror : Entire History of you

Overall - 3.5 / 5

An amazing take of family life being inturrepted due to a modern social networking tool linking earlier historical memories through a database and device planted in the brain and the neuron system.

Through a personal family matter this expands in to many areas like professional life, security and psychology.

Overall this television series is a darker and an eye opening take on the modernisation of the world. The attention to detail to the tiniest areas of the character, set design and script is amazing. But the negativity is pretty to dark.

The above image is the darkest scene from the first episode where it gives a haunting climax.

But overall the given perspective is amazing on the future.

September feels

September was quite hectic.... So much work (Professionally and Personally) but still managed to have some serious movie time.

Captain America : Civil War (2016)

Captain America : Civil war is an amazing addition to the "Captain America" triology. From the Russo brothers who jump started the film series with "Winter soldier" comes another action packed marvel film to the marvel movie universe with new characters and an expansion to the coming films in the same genre.

The best thing of this film is heroes collide like this year's Batman V. Superman : Dawn of Justice (2016) and as usual Tony Stark and Steve Rogers also known as Iron Man and Captain America gives a stunning performance going to the core of there character arcs giving the fans the feels for the next movie's to come.

The action, effects and story was unparalleled. But still when it comes to the definition of a film this is still a comic book adaptation.

Unlike Watchmen(2009) and Deadpool(2016) which I find extremely original this is still in the standard formula.

But two thumbs anyway. Ironman Vs. Captain America - may be the greatest battle in the marvel universe.

Overall - 4 / 5

The Conjuring 2 (2016)

Unlike the predecessor which scared the hell out of many people, for me this has declined from the grandness and from terror as the predecessor.

The Conjuring 2 expands the horror franchise going deeper into the Warren's family with a more deeper analysis in to there cases but this eventually looses track in over loading the substance and matter to the film. Unlike the predecessor where the horror and terror was primary, this film has given weight for many other aspects as well.

Still James Wan has brought his signature moves to keep the film alive and powerful.

Not scary as the hype in my perspective. But a good horror film and an amazing stylish turn for the genre as usual by the director.

Overall - 3.5 / 5

The Bourne Legacy (2012)

This is not as good as the original trilogy but an amazing perspective from another point of view.

The universe of Jason Bourne is amazingly studied through this film from another operative's perspective.

For me Aaron Cross, hero of this film should not appear again but this film should stand alone as a spin-off which actually pulled of an okay stunt.

The action was amazing but the brains and style was the issue.

Anyway if you love "Bourne" movies this is a good perspective.

Overall - 3.5 / 5

The Nice Guys (2016)

This is a trademark Shane Black film.

Dark humour, violence and atmosphere fused together with an amazing style and substance Shane Black might have just pulled off another classic to his filmography.

Ryan Gosling and Russel Crowe plays unique witty but smart character arcs with the Shane Black style.

A detective film with a unique taste, I personally believe is a great experience for modern filmgoers to have a different film experience.

Overall - 4 / 5

Now You See Me 2 (2016)

Now You See Me (2013) was unique. It stirred movie goers due to it's amazing perspective on magic.

The sequel keeps it going. It expands the whole universe and the magic too.

The story unfolds when the payback comes from the other side. The victims of the prequel are now going against the four horsemen.

The new expansive universe of the film franchise and magic is striking, mind bending and visually stunning.

An amazing personal film experience.

Highly recommended.

Overall - 4/5

See you next month.

Saturday, August 6, 2016

Month of August have one of my biggest obstacles in life. (CIMA - O Level - E1)

It's like battle with the devil.... So the reviews come early.

Like I said to face the battle with Devil I spent a whole Saturday himself with a retired Lucifer.

This review is on a modern day tv screen adaptation of the devil or Lucifer who retired from hell and have come to Los Angeles to spend his time and that has created an unnecessary swirl in the up and down (Hell and Heaven) making other angels and higher powers to interfere with Lucifer. So basically this is the story. So what's the big deal?

Heres's the big deal.....

Lucifer Season 01 (2016) gives a different potrayal of Lucifer himself. He's amazingly stylish and is limited in scope himself. No big plans. He is actually enjoying retirement. Like eternal youth. A deep dark fantasy of any human being. Partying, booze and Sex.

Unlike other potrayals in Cinema and Tv screen adaptations he have less plans.... more fun. (Lucifer in Supernatural is depressing and dark[TV] / Lucifer in This is the end {2013} is"huge", Lucifer in Ghost Rider {2007} is old and wants the earth from god.... all the other lucifer's from Devil's advocate {1997} and End of days {1999}. But Devil in Constantine {2005} knows his rules but still he's freaking old.

But this guy he's really young and fun... And he knows his job. And time to time he does it.

Things change when he meets a cop a lady whom seems to immune for his powers where many mysteries seems to unravel.

So he falls in LOVE. Know this is the best part of"Lucifer."

He struggles in good Vs. Bad. This is unique. That's why I personnally love this Tv series.

Overall - 4/5

A unique potrayal of the devil.

Sunday, July 24, 2016

July was also like the previous month, but still managed to maintain some touch with Cinema.

And also was able to finish "Supernatural : Season 08".

So here goes the reviews.

Concussion (2015)

This film is one of Will Smith's new films that tries to bring him back to the film scene but fails to bring his usual dramatic style and substance may be due to lack of innovation in the film in my perspective.

The film builds on an ordinary doctor who builds a case on NFL players and the unsafe nature of the sport due to the inherent concussions occured in the sport where in the long run creates a dangerous effect and create suicidal impacts to the sportsman and when Dr. Bennet Omalu (palyed by Will Smith) an immigrant from Africa discloses this in a medical magazine he faces a lot of threats and many negative impacts from the AFL making his personal and professional life destroyed and but later his theory was proved by the public making his sacrifice worthwhile.

The only reason the film didn't worked out was in my opinion was that when I watched it, it reminded me of "The Insider (1998)" which was a similar premise but was well executed. But it had some good dialogues and also a unique approach to sports films. Still the impact of the later film I established in the review gives me a lower standard to this film due to it's lack of execution as per the other movie.

Anyway if you love Will Smith you're going to watch this anyway and he pulls of a good film.

Overall - 3.5/5

Demolition (2015)

Demolition (2015) is a usual film of Jean - Marc Valle who mainly focuses on people's personal lives and how they positively or negatively overcome grief through amazing visual style and substance.

This film is about a well-to-do guy who losses his wife in a car accident later tries to identify his own existence and the true relationship he had with his wife.

It's actually a good film but considering the director's style it becomes a consistent experience creating a stagnation of style but unlike his previous  films this character takes his loss extremely negatively and like the title and creates havoc. But it is a very beautifully made experience cinematically.

Overall - 3.5/5

Supernatural : Season 08 (2012)

An amazing come back after the "Leviathon" disaster because personally it felt like actually a season of black goo. (Why - because they was a "one-time" thing and it sucked)

But season 08 is back with the old sarcasm, wit and humour + bloody action.

Both Dean and Sam are chasing something worthwhile now and they are back to the main stories premise.

The ending or the beginning to the next season is amazing.

Overall - 3.5/5

 Wild (2014)

Like the earlier film but a much more sensitive and darker Jean-Mark Valle's Wild is a recovery story of a real life women after personal train wreck like life and through a hike she reflects upon her own life through her perspective.

Unlike "Demolition" this film's got art and style. It is based on a true story and with great substance, the film was executed amazingly with natural cinematography which personally I liked.

Overall - 3.5/5

Wednesday, June 29, 2016

This month have been hectic and confusing. All the office work and studies came at once. Still I managed to pull off two films during this period.

FAN (2016)

One of Shah rukh's best films of the year may be for this past decade of his films in my perspective.

This reflects the real hindi film fan fare mind set with a much more stronger and a great visionary style and substance through entering a mind of an ordinary man but a film fanatic of Aaryan Khanna (Shah Rukh Khan) and he himself calls him Aaryan Jr. is Gaurav played by Shah Rukh himself.

This film have no villains and there are no good guys. And that's why this makes an amazing movie with a human element both fighting for there personal persona and identity.

Amazing film with great art and substance + this is in a decade Shah Rukh playing a dual role since Don (2006).

Overall - 4/5

X - Men : Apocalypse (2016)

Third and the final installment of the prequel trilogy of X-Men, Apocalypse creates a conclusion to the series not with the strength and the impact it had with X-Men : Days of Future Past (2012).

They manage to recreate the greatest villain of all in X men universe but makes a complete fool out of him in my opinion through drfiting in the story.

Not well structured though manages to pull off a decent flick.

Would have done better.

Overall - 3/5

Saturday, May 21, 2016

This month's reviews will reflect upon the year 2016's most anticipated "B movies" and where one delivered and the other didn't.

Gods of Egypt (2016)

Though it creates a dazzling visual experience the film maker fails to establish matter and substance in the film.

The mythology is perfect but the story lacks energy from the actors and a foundation of a story that would keep the audience in awe besides the visuals.

Acting was poor. No strong emotions.

Overall - 2.5/5

10 Cloverfield Lane (2016)

An amazing suspense thriller this for me is a masterpiece. Established with strong acting performances and thrilling set building, the film maker will succesfully recreates the horror genre in a fanatic and a fierce manner.

Overall - 4/5

Friday, April 29, 2016

This month the reviews  will be on super hero films that rocked the year 2016.

Batman Vs. Superman - Dawn of Justice (2016)

This is one of the most anticipated films of the year. And it satisfied the audiences.

What a come back after the crash landing of "Man of Steel" (2012) this film establishes a firm foundation for the future DC movie universe.

Overall - 3.5/5

Dead pool (2016)

Like BvsS this is one of the years most anticipated super hero films with a much more punch and a new approach to the superhero films.

This expands the universe in a much more funnier and a broader perspective for Marvel where it will create more comic book characters to come up in the future.

Overall - 3.5/5

High-Rise (2015)

A more ultra violent and dark film of the human condition in a high-rise building in a near future this would have been an amazing depiction of abstract film making but the film maker looses in his smooth execution by excessively adding unnecessary graphic in the film deviating from the plot. ( More like Style over substance sceanrio)

Overall - 2.5/5

New television series are also reviewed through this blog entry this month.

X - Files : Season 10 (2016)

This was one of the most anticipated revivals of televison but unfortunately did not lived upto the reputation.

The stories were too deviated from the earlier style creating a gap in character of the television.

The logic of Scully and paranoia of Mulder was not there. The combination that gave energy in previous seasons was not there creating many miscalculations and issues and even major plot holes in the seasons.

Overall - 3/5

Into the badlands - Season : 01

This is not a television series that you should watch for art and story. This is pure martial arts and solid action sequences.

It was kind of reviving for me to watch an awesome tv series like that.

Overall - 3.5/5

Sunday, March 27, 2016

This month I'm taking on the biographies in hollywood that was put to screen last year (2015).

They are stories of rags to riches where two films give positive outcomes (Steve Jobs and Joy) while the other give a negative story (Black Mass) of how karma come backs to you.

Steve Jobs (2015)

Steve Jobs is Michael Fassbender's revelation of a film on portrayal of the genius behind Apple who established the brand among millions of worldwide geeks through his immense creativity and vision and this film with unique connection of Danny Boyle style and Fassbender's sharp acting reflects monumental events of his life which is embedded to "Apple".

The dialogues are amazing. Style and substance are infused with humanity of the personal struggle of the legend is an amazing depiction about the man and his machine.

Overall rating - 4/5

Black Mass (2015)

A film with style of unique sensitivity and hard core violence this film takes a new perspective on crime drama with the style of the director, Scott Cooper. As usually Johnny Depp gives an amazing performance as Bulger. A true story director combines drama and non-fiction in pure artistic way through amazing cinematography and set design.

One of the years best performance as an actor Johnny Depp gives a performance of a life time but unfortubately not nominated.

Overall - 3.5/5

Joy (2015)

Unlike the first two films this is a purely fictionalised film with a unique way of looking at life and in my perspective the film maker establishes a strong performance through external art and craft and also by unique character development.

Obviously the film is unrealistic but the humour and dramatic portrayal is an amzing experimentation in cinema on my perspective.

Overall rating - 3.5/5

Last few months has created several film events and historic events for film goers.

(01) Force Awakened.

Star Wars : Episode VII : Force Awakens is a monumental film for any film fan.

Any one who loves cinema loves "Star wars".

The first trilogy was epic. It transformed the film industry and created a world wide phenomena.

But the Prequel trilogy crash landed among critics and even fans.

My perspective was that film director George Lucas focused on bigger themes and scope forgetting the basics of the franchise in the prequel trilogy.

The basics was simple.

The first trilogy was all about character depth and all the huge setting and background was just a support to develop the "Star wars" universe. He went vice - versa in the prequels.

The new episode is fresh and keeps us tensed and the depth all around is outstanding. It reminds of the past and nostalgia is consumating and amazing.

New characters and old gives the fans an amazing reboot.

And it is J.J. Abrams monumental achievement of being able to reboot the biggest Sci-Fi franchises in the industry. And he did it amazingly. Both "Star Wars" and "Star Trek" is head to head now.

(02) Will "The Revenant (2015)" revive Leo's Taboo in Oscar bad luck ?

The new film of Leo Dicaprio which is highly acclaimed by the critcs and fans is back in spotlight because it is now nominated for 12 oscars and it includes the best actor nomination as well.

And Leo is not lucky with Oscars.

But this film is unique. It is both monumental for the actor as well as for the director Alejandro González Iñárritu.

Because it was built on hard work and dedication. And Leo had a hard time playing the role. He actually went on a strict diet and even stayed in the winter like climates to get into the act.

In my pespective this will be his day.... Hopefully.

(03) Kung Fu Panda 3 : Rocks.

KP 3 resurrects the energy of the story it brought from the first. More funnier and graphically beautiful the film maker establishes strong back story from the first two and also brings the enhacements of the scope of the characters.

The best thing I like about this is the fun and jokes it provides the audience and it is re-enegizing entrance to the franchise.
